The All-New 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL is a New Generation of Awesome

It's time--after years of sitting comfortably in its "JK" generation, the Jeep Wrangler has rolled out with an all-new look and feel. The new Jeep Wrangler JL is improved in just about every way over its predecessor. Jeep has (temporarily, perhaps) dropped the "Unlimited" title for JL four-door models to better align the entire lineup as a single family of vehicles--now, you'll just specify 2-door or 4-door when you shop for your next 4WD SUV. For 2018, JL trim levels include the Jeep Wrangler Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon.

Interior Features--It's Upgraded, Really

It's not unfair to say that the Jeep Wrangler is known for being a little more bare-bones than other models--fans used to joke about purchasing seats, because they weren't offered as standard equipment. The base Sport is still pretty minimalistic, all things considered, and still boasts its must-have wash-out interior, but you get a lot more than you used to. Optional features include heated seats, leather trim, premium audio, and power everything.

Exterior Styling--It's the Newest Old Design

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL doesn't look radically different from the Jeep Wrangler JK (2017 and earlier), but that's because messing with the recipe of this classic design is something close to an unforgivable crime. The new model is designed with new side vents, and new front and rear bumpers, but that's about it for big visual differences. There are three roof options: a Sunrider Soft Top, a Freedom Top modular hardtop, and a new Sky One-Touch power top.

Engine Power and New Turbo Performance

Standard power for the Jeep Wrangler JL comes from a next-gen 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine with engine start/stop technology and the new eTorque system--altogether, this classic and familiar engine is good for 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission comes standard, but you can enjoy a new eight-speed automatic transmission if that's your preference. For the first time, there is a second engine option: an all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine good for 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.

More Tech Features to Play With

These aren't the old days anymore--your Jeep Wrangler may have been built to help you disconnect from the rat race, but that doesn't mean you need to disconnect entirely. The cabin offers easy convenience through a fourth-gen Uconnect system, which offers 5.0-inch, 7.0-inch, and up to 8.7-inch touchscreen display options and can stream your phone's music, media, and apps through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
