Is the Jeep Wrangler Safe? Safety Rating & Features of the American Icon

October 22nd, 2020 by

The Jeep Wrangler may be the king of off-roading and great for riding through town with the doors off, but is it safe? The Wrangler is a great car that is practical and enjoyable to drive around in. When it comes to safety, the Wrangler has made improvements on their overall ratings over the years.

Over time, the Wrangler has made design changes to enhance not only the safety of the SUV but also the performance and capabilities. The Wrangler is one of the strongest and most capable SUVs, and it’s as safe as it has ever been, but is it still deemed safe in a possible crash? The Wrangler has received the following safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS):

  • Moderate Overlap Front Test Results: Good
  • Side Impact Test Results: Good
  • Rear Crash Protection Results: Good
  • Roof Strength Test Results: Good
  • Small Overlap Front Driver Test Results: Marginal
  • Headlights Results: Poor
  • Front Crash Prevention Results: Superior

The Wrangler has received generally good safety scores. The SUV is designed to travel just about anywhere, through any terrain. With these safety stats and the Rollover Protection System, the Wrangler is built like a cage to protect you. The Wrangler received two individual safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA):

  • Frontal Crash: 4 out of 5 Stars
  • Rollover: 3 out of 5 Stars

The Wrangler has a high rating when it comes to Frontal Collisions, which gives drivers peace of mind. The SUV did not receive an overall rating from either the IIHS or the NHTSA. Combined, they received a good/average overall rating in terms of safety. Is the Jeep Wrangler safe? This is a tough question to answer. No, it is not the safest Jeep model that Jeep produces; on the other hand, you need to look at the Wrangler’s capabilities, power, and typical use. In that case, the Wrangler provides a good experience in all of those aspects.

Some other safety features that the Wrangler has is the Driver, Passenger, and Front Side Airbags. Additionally, the Wrangler is designed with brake assist, electronic stability control, and traction control. Overall, although there are mixed reviews on whether or not the Wrangler is safe, let’s just say that it’s safer than it has ever been. Truthfully, if you’re looking for a car primarily based on safety attributes, the Jeep Wrangler probably isn’t the one for you. Although it is a powerful, and popular All-American SUV, the Wrangler isn’t the highest-rated Jeep model when it comes to safety. On the other hand, the Wrangler is an enjoyable, solid choice for those long highway drives around Georgia.
